Data Storage
Many experiments, such as a synchrotron, are producing large quantities of data. This data requires specialist storage and management to enable multiple users, from a variety of institutions, secure access and to ensure preservation. VeRSI is establishing a dedicated data storage system for VeRSI projects, with nodes at member institutes and the Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing. The storage system will be generally available to the member institutes at the end of VeRSI.

Security & Access
eResearch involves collaborations of researchers and resources at different institutions, where different security systems apply. Researchers need to control, monitor and access to resources, including information and data, research tools and services. Such control requires authentication and authorisation that in turn relies on effective identity management.
The VeRSI Security & Access project addresses these issues, utilising Shibboleth, implementing Identity and Access Management and Virtual Organisations. A feature of the system is single sign-on, providing a single means of authentication to a range of research resources.
An informative introduction to federated access management has be produced by JISC, the UK's Joint Information Systems Committee.

Awareness
Wide-reaching communication of the benefits of eResearch and the range of technology solutions is a key factor in the acceleration of the uptake of eResearch.
The targets of the eResearch message include: VeRSI collaborators & researchers, research institutes, research supporters, and the public.
Some of the activities include:
- researcher support & training
- 'birds of a feather' networks
- workshops & conferences
- e-newsletters & bulletins
- knowledge transfer
- visibility in the research space
